Christmas shopping in Bologna!

Tatina!!
No perchè potrei anche sentirmi male!

 -----------

Dear Tatina! How's gone the first part of your Christmas holydays? Yes, first part: remeber that it hasn't finished yet: we have still two weeks before being able to say that we are officially survivors. But I'm sure we'll be able to manage these days, probably followed by some kilos more, we'll be able to fight against only from middle January on!

I'm still thinking about that delicious gingerbread house (and the bisciuts too!) you made recently: they should have been a diary temptation. Unless... did you use the as Christmas presents?
You know, sometimes it seems that the word festivity must be matched to food and meals. It's true that families meet up together, they talk, chat, discuss, laugh and EAT EVERYTHING, starting with appetizers, going on with a couple of entries, and then five types of meat and side dishes. And it's not finished yet: you then have fruit, coffee, dessert, and finally panettone (which, I mean, should be a dessert, but it is a traditional surplus...).

This year I haven't missed anything: my granny's passatelli, my mother-in-law's cappelletti, my aunt's roastbeef, and a wonderful stuffed roasted rabbit! Do you want to talk about sweets? Better to avoid any other food discussion, or I'll feel sick!

Better to talk about the other Christmas topic: shopping. Every year we spend a lot of money buying presents (to our friends, family, and even to ourselves!). And every year, a couple of days before Christmas, shops become a mess: everybody running around, appearing half desperate, half lost, looking for the last presents, as if they were looking for a precious treasure that will change their lives!

This time I've been clever, and made all the presents in advance. So I only had one shopping morning in Bologna with Marzia and Patrizio. I always love walking through Bologna, especially with our university friends: we remember all the good times we spent together, that pub where we met "that person", the other pub where we got drunk, the afternoons spent on the library studying and chatting, and listening to music, and exploring the building which was a kind of labyrinth! And then we mix the past with the present, by telling news, gossip and updating each otehr's lives.

As usual, I met Marzia at the train station: after a quick look at the Christmas market right in front of it (where I bought a nice notebook, you can writhe your dinner or lunch menu on for your guests), we started waloking along Via Indipendenza, looking the shops windows, going in and out, and getting cool, and warm, and cool and warm (the best way to get flu!).
After discovering that Nutelleria had been replaced by a normal restaurant :-( we went straight to the Santa Lucia Christmas Market, where we found any kind of handmade product, like toys, bags, purses, clothes, lamps, jewels, etc.
We couldn't miss Feltrinelli International, where I bought some books for my english courses (and I also ricovered from the freezing temperature that was outside).

And after crossing Piazza Maggiore, looking with admiration the great Nettuno's statue (which was looking after the big Christmas tree), Marzia and I walked back to the station, to meet Patrizio and have lunch together (a warm meal is always welcome, even if it's very expensive) and we finally went back home.
It was a really nice day, but something was missing... not something, but someone: you, Davide, Ali, Cami, Ste, Elena, Nadia and all our friends!
But maybe next year we'll be abel to meet there...in the meantime... see you tomorrow in Ferrara! :-)
